The Ride Home and Wrap Up (coming soon)

Day 7: Johnson City, TN to Huntington, WV (239 Miles)

We woke this morning to a heavy, low fog cover but happily headed out on Route 23 into West Virginia with many other Posse Riders.  We had the pleasure of riding with two very special friends of ours who moved from California to Florida a while back, Mike and Rachel Hentigan, whom we’ve been riding with since 1999.  Rachel and Christine got their motorcycle licenses together in ’99 and since then we’ve ridden two Posse Rides, Route 66 and Lewis and Clark. The roads through the backcountry of Tennessee, Virginia, Kentucky and West Virginia were great and the scenery was green as far as the eye could see.  We made a quick stop at the Harley Davidson dealership in Pikeville, KY as well as one in Prestonburg, KY before heading up the mountain to Huntington, WV where Benjy’s Harley Davidson threw a party like no other.  The downtown area, one entire street, was blocked off to through traffic and was reserved for bike parking only.  Several businesses on the street closed down for the day just to partake in the festivities.  Tomorrow we ride to Cumberland, MD and will pick up two more states.  We plan to ride on Route 50, one of Bill’s most favorite roads.
