The Ride Home and Wrap Up (coming soon)

Day 9: Cumberland, MD to Arlington, VA (178 Miles)

Today we left the group and headed to Arlington, VA to spend some time with very special friends of Bill and Christine’s (Bill has known Carl and Janeal for over 30 years). Rather than make a freeway run, we took Route 15 from Maryland into Virginia and crossed the Potomac on a working ferry called White’s Ferry, a bit upgraded today from Bill and Carl’s last crossing in the early 80’s.  We meandered on River Road for miles (even got a little bit lost but saw some amazing homes in Potomac), had a nice ride down the George Washington Parkway, darted over into Georgetown (in D.C.) before arriving at Carl and Janeal’s where we did several loads of laundry, washed the bikes, and had a great dinner poolside.

Taking a break at the side of the road along the Potomac River.

River Road provided miles and miles of beautiful roads and scenery.

The bikes cleaned up well with Carl’s help . . . had never seen a bike get dried quite this way before, but it worked!
