Day 4: Colorado Springs, CO - no real mileage to speak of
Today was an "in-town" day where we caught up on laundry, bike maintenance and made final preparations for the ride. The day started with all 600+ of us meeting at 6:00am to stage for a police escorted ride to the Garden of the Gods for the beginning group picture. Then we were all on our own for the day and many made their way to Pikes Peak Harley Davidson, the local dealership, who sponsored live entertainment and a barbeque lunch for the Posse Riders. In the evening we all gathered again in the ballroom of the Doubletree Hotel for our official kickoff dinner and to take our Posse Ride Oath. Tomorrow officially starts the 2004 Posse Ride.

We had been searching for two people (Tom and Debby Wright of North County Powder Coating) from our own home town who we had been told were on the Posse Ride by the owner of one of our very favorite restaurants, the Route 66 Steakhouse.  We thought we saw his "telltale" red and white bike while passing riders on an offramp in Victorville, CA but weren't certain.  Sure enough it was them in Victorville but when we caught up with them at Pikes Peak we found them on a brand new black Ultra Classic!  Why you ask?  Somewhere in Zion, UT his red and white bike broke down and they and their friends limped into Durango, CO  where it currently rests awaiting a truck to take it home.  Rather than throw in the towel and miss out on the rest of the ride, he and his wife bought a new bike to continue the ride.  Life's good!  We look forward to seeing them again on the road.

The rumor is true! Mike and Helen Johnson, of the Superstition Chapter (seen here with Posse Marshall Joe Dowd and friends who are getting married on the trip in Reno) are, in fact, on the Posse Ride. Bill Davis has seen them as witnessed here.

A daily occurrence since we left San Diego is a rainbow, bringing us good luck on the road.
