Day
8: Ely, NV to Reno, NV (338 miles)
Today we finished travelling Highway 50, The Loneliest Road
in America, into Reno, NV. Due to the long stretch of road
ahead of us through the desert, we left Ely before 6:30am
to ride in the cool of the morning. Well, the frigid cold
of the morning actually! Jackets, chaps, and winter gloves
were necessary. Before long, however, all of it came off
as the temperature rose. We made it to Reno by 1:15pm and
went straight to Reno Harley-Davidson for service since
we have traveled almost 3,000 miles since leaving San Diego.
This dealership came out in force and hosted all 650 of
us in style with the husband and wife owners, John and Marci,
personally overseeing service issues and mingling with the
Posse Riders. Bill's bike needed its entire electrical system
replaced (thank goodness for that extended warranty as it
only cost $50 for $600 worth of repairs). New tires, fresh
oil, and we are on our way for our next leg of the trip.

Highway 50 parallels the Pony Express Route and is very
straight and desolate for the most part, however, several
scenic high mountain passes offered awesome winding roads.

Entering
Reno...the biggest little city in the US.
